Dough Disco and Wake and Shake
Every day the children are participating in Dough Disco and Wake and Shake activities. You may well hear them talk to you about it at home and we thought you might like some more information about what they are and why we do them.
What are they?
Dough Disco involves moulding play dough in time to music and performing different actions such as rolling it into a ball, flattening it, putting each individual finger into the dough, rolling it into a sausage and squeezing it.
Wake and Shake involves exercising to music, copying and performing a sequence of movements which start with 'warm up' activities, increase in pace and complexity and then end with 'cool down' movements. We use a range of different types of music to ensure that the interests of all of the children are catered for.
Why do them?
Dough Disco helps to strengthen children’s fine motor muscles, enabling them to develop their control and pencil grip which in turn will help to develop their writing skills.
Wake and Shake helps to develop the children's gross motor skills, improves balance and coordination, develops a sense of rhythm and timing and leads to increasing levels of stamina. Following the short exercise break the children are re-energised and ready to learn.
Best of all, it’s fun and the children love it!
First Day in School
A very successful first day for all of the children. It was lovely to see them exploring the space and beginning to make new friends or reconnect with old ones. They joined in enthusiastically with all of our activities and practiced being more independent. Thank you for your patience with the lining up at drop off and pick up and to all parents who used the sticker technique to help with putting shoes on the right feet. It really made a difference.
See you all tomorrow for another fun day of learning.
Learning how to stay safe and well
In order to help the embed the main messages which are being promoted during the Coronavirus outbreak, Reception children start the day by singing two fun and catchy songs to help remind us what we need to do to stay safe. Please watch them below if you would like to sing them with your child at home.
